Last Sunday of Easter

This Sunday is the last Sunday of the season of Easter. Throughout this season we have read the recorded witness to the resurrection. Christ is risen! A new covenant of grace was made possible in his sacrificial death and glorious resurrection. This week we will also celebrate the ascension of Christ. God raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1: 20b, 22, 23.

We have in Christ one who understands our weakness and continues to intercede on our behalf with love and grace. He is the Good Shepherd who provides for all of our needs. He is the Vine from which we receive our nourishment and our ability to be fruitful. As we gather each Sunday to hear his Word and regularly sit at table with the Lord in the sacrament of Holy Communion our lives experience transformation and we know joy, peace and love that this world cannot give. These are gifts of God that transcend our circumstances and enable us to walk in victory. Thanks be to God.
